Preventing PWC Theft
Part of the reason why PWCs are so popular is that they are light and easy to transport. Unfortunately, this also makes them easy to steal, but luckily, you can protect your PWC from theft by using the tips in this guide from Kissimmee Motorsports.
On the Water
Never leave your PWC unattended while out on the water. If necessary, chain up your PWC or leave it in the care of someone you trust. Keep your lanyard with you at all times, not attached to the PWC or lying around. If your PWC has extra built-in security measures, know how they work and use them when necessary.
On the Trailer
Heavy-duty drill-proof trailer locks might be expensive, but they’re more than worth it when it comes to preventing PWC theft. There are several different types of trailer locks available, so choose whichever one fits your situation/budget. When traveling with your PWC, take extra precautions like only parking in safe locations that have adequate lighting and are fully in view of any security cameras. If you’re traveling with someone else, ask them to park directly behind the trailer. Chaining up your trailer and installing a motion-sensor alarm can also help keep your PWC safe. Lastly, don’t forget to lock up your tow vehicle!
In Storage
If there’s no secure garage available in which to store your PWC, a place behind a locked gate is your next best bet. If neither of these options is available, do what you can to make your trailer less accessible, such as installing a wheel lock, parking directly behind the trailer, and turning the hitch to the side. If you plan to store your PWC long-term, you can temporarily remove your trailer’s wheels. If you’re worried about the thief placing a wheel on the trailer, use a locking lug nut.
Additional Tips
We recommend that you take photographs of your PWC, including the Hull Identification Number (HIN), the engine compartment, your PWC trailer, and any other identifying features. This will make it easier to recover your PWC should it be stolen. Overall, the best advice is to maximize the amount of effort required to steal your PWC.
